Rocking The Plaid Flannel

Plaid flannels are becoming very hot nowadays, every girl (and boys) try rocking this (old-new) trend, some are a hit while others a MISS. I'm here to make sure your's is not a miss, so first things first;

General Tips On Plaid
Consider the color. Since plaid shirts have been such a hit, they're available at tons of stores in many different colors! If you want to go a super trendy route, try neons and black (neons? bright pinks and lemons). If you want a more traditional look (by traditional, i mean a more conservative or under-the-radar colour), go for more muted colors like navy, reds, and greys with white.

Try different materials. While plaid flannels are a great cool weather piece, the print comes in many other fabrics, from light weight, sheer cotton to thick flannel, there are many options for different prices.

Find tailored fits. Plaid shirts are notorious for looking boyish, grungy, and worst of all ill-fitting! When choosing a plaid shirt, it's important to pick a top that's not too baggy so you'll keep your girly silhouette in-play! Don't go too small though (i know most girls like 'the smaller, the sexier' but not for this), longer and slightly over-sized plaid tops are adorable, too.

Pair with neutrals. Since plaid is a pattern, it's best to pair it with neutral solids. Plaid tops look great with jeans and leggings alike! Feel free to go crazy with your footwear, i could even recommend you wear leopard skin footwear, it always looks awesome.

Think about pattern and print size. Since plaid is so popular, there are lots of patterns and varied print sizes in the market. "Woven" styles that interlock a mix of colors tend to have a larger print while "western" styles generally feature smaller squares of a single color against a black background. Wovens are great if you're feeling traditional, while westerns look hot in bright colors.

How To Wear- Outfit Inspirations
First off, Danielle looks gorgeous in this plaid flannel, channeling the whole boyish vibe but also flaunting her legs in adorable jean shorts.

Diandra made this plaid flannel so much chic by pairing it with a skater skirt, sparkly cape and pointy pumps. You can also do same and look fabulous.

For people who are all into this chic trend, you can go all out with the shirt dress as Kaitlyn has done. She completed her look with faux leather jacket, black tights and booties. (pointers- if you are ok with baring your legs, you could switch the tights for bare legs and switch the booties for flats, pumps or sneakers.)

Our very own eye-candy, Craig looks drop-dead gorg in his plaid flannel as he keeps it casual. You could also achieve this look by pairing your PF with a pair of perfect fitting jeans and keep it stepping (Warning: if you don't have rock-hard abs like Craig, pls, pls and pls, stay away from flying out your shirt. Thanks) .

I have always been a fan of the plaid skater skirt, it always looks chic and instantly ups any outfit it is paired with. Here, Lily is rocking her plaid skater skirt with chunky heels and lace blouse.

Glam-it-up-baby! This right here is super chic. She totally glammed up the plaid flannel shirt with a feather and be-jeweled skirt, over-sized sunglasses, Michel Kors tote bag, bright red lips and accessories. For day-night transition, this look would be purr-fect!

Now this is one of my all time favourites, the tied flannel around your waist look. it's perfect for people who aren't yet into the whole plaid thing and allows them ease into it and also it's just a laid back style which looks effortless (like saying- hey, i didn't try but i am cool).

Added benefit- if you are one of those people that like to do the whole mushy-mushy thing, you could totally match with your significant other.

Now you don't have an excuse, go rock the plaid flannel to the best of your abilities and be sure to post a picture and tag us @mysocialspy for IG and @socialspy_ng on twitter and we would be sure to repost. Leave a comment telling us which look you would try first.
